Matilda

Meet British Longhorn Matilda, the long awaited second member of our Collector’s Herd. This painting has a special place in my heart for two reasons. I took the photograph for this painting during the filming of the ‘BBC Countryfile’ episode I was featured in, one of the most memorable highlights of my career. But most importantly, the lady it features was owned by my young farmer friend Nathan, who sadly passed away in 2019. One of Nathan’s Longhorns is an already cherished member of the Lauren’s Cows herd – the wonderfully curious ‘Holly’.

If detail is what you look for in a painting, then Matilda is the lady for you. One thing often missed by the naked eye is the complexity of colour in a cows hair, and the British Longhorn is no exception. Their beautifully dappled coat makes them glimmer in the sunlight. An abundance of fine brushstrokes of colour make this painting one you can truly get lost in. The longer you look, the more you see.

Best of all when I revealed the piece to Nathan he said

‘That’s amazing! I could’ve told you who it was if you’d just sent me that, so must have done well. I Love it!’
