BEATING THE JANUARY BLUES
Surround Yourself with Things That Make You Smile

Ah, January. The month of resolutions, rainy days, tight jeans and, let’s be honest… the infamous January blues. But here’s a little secret, the key to lifting your mood isn’t in waiting for sunshine or ticking off a to-do list. It’s in surrounding yourself with the things that genuinely make you smile. Throughout 2026 I’m making a special effort to fill my life with small joys and my home with things that make me smile. I’m sure you’ve guessed one of them…

Yes, cows. People always want to know why I paint cows, and it’s simple. They make me happy. Whether I’m sitting in the field amongst the herd with my camera, watching them over the fence or painting them; they just bring me joy. There’s something about their gentle curiosity, playful personalities, and those big, soft eyes that just makes the world feel lighter. With each painting I aim to bottle up all of that feel good energy and pass on the smile.

So, if you’re feeling the January blues creeping in, surround yourself with things that lift your spirit. For me, that’s cows on the wall, reminding me to pause, smile, and enjoy the little moments. What’s on your list of things that make you smile?
