Dites bonjour à Ivory, la Vache Charolaise!

From now on I'll drop my terrible French and stick to English! But please say hello to Ivory the Charolais Cow. She's new to the herd and exceptionally beautiful. This is my first ever Charolais, Ivory and I love her. She has the most beautiful face and looks so gentle and endearing that you just want to reach into the painting and stroke her. I feel like I’ve known her all my life, but I know very little about the breed itself.

So welcome to another episode of The Wonderful World of Cows! So what do we know about this French Fancy?

Friends from across the pond!
I love photographing cows. There’s nothing quite like lying in the grass peering up at the big wet nose of an inquisitive cow. It’s the best way to truly know their personality, after all character is what my paintings are all about. However it’s not always possible for me to meet my subjects in person- or is it cowson? Especially when painting lesser seen breeds. I had my heart set on painting a Texas Longhorn for a while now but was struggling to find them in the UK. I was getting rather disheartened by the whole thing, until one day browsing Instagram!

York Open Studios begins this weekend 14th & 15th April and hopefully many of you will be joining me to see the cows at Bar Lane Studios, York. But it's not only me who will be welcoming in York's public, I'm just one of one hundred artists. Today I saw a short video online from fellow York Open Studios exhibitor, Jane Duke. A painter and printer Jane's work is beautiful but there's something that gives her artwork that little extra...

It's time once more for York Open Studios!
This wonderful art event is one of my Highlights of the year. It's a fantastic art exhibition that spreads all over York, showcasing some of the top artists in our city. Whether you're an art fan or not, its a great day out! If nothing else you can pinch lots of complimentary biscuits and cups of tea on your way round the trail. But one thing that I'm certain of is that you'll see a huge variety of artwork and get a chance to speak to some really interesting people. Including myself and the cows of course! Join us at Bar Lane Studios York, YO1 6JU for two weekends of fun.
